WHAT ARE VIRTUAL PRIVATE SERVERS - VPS
Written by wwwhostingdirectory.com
You may want to run your website in its own machine but you do not want or need the full services such as the power and the huge space you get with a dedicated server. There is something that can fill the gap inbetween the shared servers and the dedicated servers. This is what is commonly known as Virtual private servers (VPS). The virtual private servers are what they say they are, they are virtual machines in which you may already have on your computer which will act as another computer running inside your computer, basically it mimics your computer. The web server will not have any idea that this is happeniong and assume that they actually own the whole of the computer. The operating system will not realise either that this is the case. Every single virtual private server has allocated disk space, bandwidth and also RAM.
The companies that provide virtual private servers more often than not allow their clients pretty much complete allowance and control over their own particular virtual private server. This them allows thme to act as an administrator and have access that admin have to the server. This then means as a result you can actually have any software you want to install and run on your virtual private server that you want or need to run. You can also have as many different domains that you would like and the list continues. The be all and end all of it, is that you will have complete control over your own virtual private server.
Virtual private servers do have benefits if you do not want a full bells and whistles dedicated web server. Something to realise though, is that if you decide to use a virtual private server rather than a dedicated server, you will have to sacrifice some speed. The virtual private servers run slower than the dedicated ones, so if you can no longer use shared hosting as you need more speed and space, then the best thing to go for is the dedicated servers, other than that the next best thing is the virtual private servers. |
